The German airline Lufthansa will run only between 10% and 20% of its original flight schedule this Wednesday due to a ground staff strike, announced a spokesman on Monday.

The company plans to operate 100-200 connections out of approximately 1,000 scheduled flights. As per estimates, over 100,000 passengers will have to alter their plans.

Earlier on Monday, the Verdi union called for Lufthansa’s ground staff to strike on Wednesday. Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf airports will be affected.

The strike is set to begin at 04:00 on Wednesday morning and extend until 07:00 on Thursday.

This action follows ongoing wage negotiations for around 25,000 members of ground personnel including those from Deutsche Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Cargo among others.

The pay raises proposed in late January were deemed insufficient.
