There are still 1,075 job vacancies in the tourism sector in Wallonia which urgently need to be filled, according to a statement released Monday by Forem.

Tourist operators are officially opening their tourism season on Friday as school holidays begin for French-speaking Belgium.

Over the past few months, nearly 200 operators have approached Forem’s Tourism Competence Centre in Marche in preparation for the tourist season.

The centre offers 24 training programmes for job seekers, alongside 50 development modules for tourism operator employees and sector students. More than 1,400 people have been trained over the past few months as compared to 1,071 in 2023.

Out of the thousand job vacancies available, nearly half are in catering. However, group animation and customer service roles are also in short supply of applicants.

Tourism professions, like hospitality, tourism promotion, and tourist site management represent over 58,700 jobs. They generated a turnover of €7 billion in 2022, Forem adds.
