Trade union CGSLB is campaigning to increase meal vouchers from €8 to €10 due to swelling food prices.

The union says food prices in Belgium have never risen as rapidly as they have in recent months. Prices reportedly increased by an average of 12.7% in 2023 and remain at record-breaking highs in 2024. CGSLB argues that meal vouchers should therefore increase accordingly.

"Given that food is the most essential category of goods, our demand is only logical," stated CGSLB President Gert Truyens.

"Since the last meal voucher increase in 2016, food and non-alcoholic beverage prices have risen by 37.85%," the organisation goes on to explain. "In the face of such shocking food inflation, CGSLB remains committed to advocating for an increase in meal voucher values."

The union has urged people to sign their petition campaigning for the €2 increase.
