A man is in a critical condition after suffering carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning in a restaurant in Termonde (East Flanders).

The incident occurred on Monday night, with other patrons also reporting feeling unwell, according to local emergency services. CO leakage was caused by a faulty heater and inadequate ventilation, clarified the Oost Fire Brigade.

At around 20:30 on Monday, customers at the Chinese restaurant on Mechelsesteenweg in Termonde called emergency services after feeling unwell during their meal.

An elderly man, who lived above the restaurant, had to be resuscitated. He was rushed to the hospital in a life-threatening condition. His son and daughter were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
