A 54-year-old Belgian tourist has been missing in The Azores since Sunday.
While on holiday on the Portuguese archipelago, the man reportedly disappeared during a hike on São Miguel island, according to local media. The authorities were notified of his disappearance by a person accompanying the man on holiday.
A special police unit, search dogs, drones and firefighters have been deployed for the three-day search. Starting on the hiking trail, efforts have now extended to the area around Lagoa do Fogo, a lake in the crater of a volcano with ridges 950 metres high.
Attempts to find the man have been unsuccessful so far, and local police have appealed to the public for more information.
