Belgian citizens will be visa exempt for short stays in China starting from 14 March, Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib announced on Thursday.

The exemption applies to visits lasting no more than 15 days, a development that Lahbib described as "good news".

This opportunity was discussed with Chinese officials during Lahbib's official visit to China in January, alongside Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. Lahbib felt that negotiations were progressing positively.

According to Lahbib, this visa exemption can serve Belgian business people, indirectly boosting exports to China.

Belgium isn't the only European country to benefit from China's announced exemptions. Swiss, Irish, Hungarian, Austrian and Luxembourger citizens will also be visa-exempt for short stays. In November, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain received similar privileges.
