A major runway at Brussels Airport is set for closure for most of August due to resurfacing, announced batc.be, a site managed by the airport and air traffic controller Skeyes.

The top layer of asphalt on the runway needs to be replaced to ensure its proper condition and safety. Resurfacing work will be conducted from 05:00 to 23:00, and runway 01/19 will remain closed from 7 August to 1 September inclusive.

This renovation will impact the runway usage at the airport. Notably, the preferred runway utilisation, which outlines the advisable choice of runways during favourable weather conditions, might not be adhered to during this period.

Runway 01/19, which runs North-South, is the cross runway among Brussels Airport’s three takeoff and landing corridors. Notably, it is also the least-used runway at the airport.

In 2023, only 11% of flight movements were operated on this runway, more than half of which were landings on runway 01, coming from the south, over Zaventem.
