Dozens rallied on Saturday at Charleroi’s Place Verte Square for the right to housing.
With regional and federal elections only weeks away, they demanded housing be prioritised in the coming legislative period.
In Charleroi, like many other major Walloon cities, some citizens struggle to find adequate housing due to high rents. Particularly affected, according to the associations present on Saturday, are single mothers and young people.
The condition of many Charleroi dwellings leaves much to be desired, protesters said.
Among the demands carried by the associations were increased social housing, rent controlled measures, and requisitioning of empty homes.
