The Belgian branch of British cosmetics chain The Body Shop, declared bankrupt by a Dutch court in February, will not be relaunched, according a report published by Le Soir on Monday.

At least 12 of The Body Shop's Belgian shops were operated under franchise agreements, the report stated. The expiry of this contract prevented the relaunch of the chain in Belgium.

The shops' stocks were sold to the Dutch franchisees for €140,000, while the sale of the shops' equipment is currently under consideration.

The Belgian branch of the British cosmetics chain was declared bankrupt by a Dutch court last month, while the company is also experiencing financial problems in other countries.

Between 2021 and 2023, the chain generated sales of €5 million, with slight losses over the years.
