One person was lightly wounded by gunfire near Place Lemmens in Anderlecht on Friday evening.

The victim was reportedly hit with fragments rather than the bullet itself, according to a source close to the case. The Brussels-Midi police unit and Anderlecht council confirmed the incident that took place around 19:00.

“A shell casing was found on Friday evening at Lemmens Square,” revealed Sarah Frederickx, spokesperson for the Brussels-Midi police unit. She further elaborated that the shot appeared to be aimed at a van.

The police and Anderlecht council assured that although the individual was lightly wounded by shards during the incident, their life is not at risk.

“We don’t have more information at the moment,” the Anderlecht council concluded. However, it was suggested that the Brussels prosecutor’s office will disclose further information at a later time.
