Public transport in Brussels is set to be heavily disrupted on Monday due to a national strike against social dumping, with only one metro line currently running.

As demonstrators set off at Gare du Nord at 10:00, the capital’s public transport network has informed commuters of the changes to its schedule.

Of all the Brussels metro lines, only line 1 will be operational; fewer buses and trams will be running across the capital on Monday. STIB has also announced that only tram lines 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 51 and 92 are operational, with buses 12, 34, 36, 46, 50, 53, 59, 65, 71, 87 88, 95 and T-bus 92 also running.

As previously reported, demonstrators are mobilising against perceived assaults on workers' right to strike and social dumping – the practice of employers who use cheaper labour than is usually available to reduce their costs. Strikers are also protesting against Delhaize's decision to to franchise all 128 of its supermarkets.

Public transport networks for Wallonia and Flanders are also set to be disrupted due to the strike – even more so than in Brussels as TEC and De Lijn drivers are themselves participating in the strike on Monday.

Moreover, the Brussels Airport in Zaventem is also set to be impacted with security staff among those striking, which has seen security checks at the airport delayed by at least half an hour.
