Several artworks have breathed new life into the previously grey and forlorn-looking Rogier station on the Brussels Metro, bringing light and life to the underground space.

Exactly two years ago, Brussels Mobility and public transport operator STIB, in collaboration with the City of Brussels, launched a project call for artists to design a fresco on the ceiling above the entrance to Rogier station near City 2. After a preselection and a public vote, Dake 25's project was completed in August 2022.

However, due to the large number of impressive project proposals sent in, that Brussels Mobility offered the other selected artists the chance to work on the other entrances to Rogier station. All the additional frescos are now completed: the work on the murals was carried out between April 2022 and April 2024 to ensure minimum inconvenience to STIB passengers.

"Thank you to these young artists for making Rogier metro station more beautiful," said Brussels Mobility Minister Elke Van den Brandt. "Their beautiful frescoes bring colour and joy. This is important and is part of the beautiful Brussels tradition of enriching the movement of tens of thousands of travellers every day with extraordinary works of art."

The works can be found at the external entrance for City 2, at the two internal entrances to the platform of tram lines 3 and 4 (towards North Station-Esplanade), and at the two internal entrances to the platform of tram lines 3 and 4 (Direction Churchill - Stalle).

Meanwhile, a UFO-inspired work can be found at the entrance to the Manhattan Tower, while another work depicting flow and movement is located at the two internal entrances to the central platform of metro lines 2 and 6.

A visualisation of Rogier Square seen from above decorates the inner and outer entrances to the platform of metro lines 2 and 6 (in the direction of Simonis), while on the other side, in the direction of Elisabeth, passengers will find frescos illustrating a multitude of terms related to mobility and about life in Brussels.
