A person was stabbed in the Brussels municipality of Ixelles on Tuesday evening at around 19:50. The victim is currently in a life-threatening condition.

The stabbing took place at the Boondael train station, located to the east of Bois de la Cambre, and was initially reported by Het Laatste Nieuws and later confirmed to Belga News Agency by the federal police.

The victim was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, said police spokesperson Jana Verdegem. First responders rushed to the scene after the emergency services received a call about the incident, including officers from the railway and local police forces, along with Securail security services.

The assailant reportedly fled along the tracks. As a result, railway network operator Infrabel temporarily halted services between Brussels-Luxembourg and Halle.

Services resumed around 21:15 but trains no longer stopped at the first platform of Boondael station. An investigation into the stabbing is underway. The police did not confirm the perpetrator had been arrested, meaning the person is likely still on the run.

The incident occurred one month after a person was stabbed on board an SNCB train bound for Eupen which was travelling between Brussels-Central and Brussels-North stations when the incident took place.
