Lawyer Judit Karlsson rode her horse Lily through Brussels on Tuesday to raise awareness about the famine in Sudan on behalf of Doctors Without Borders and Médecins Sans Frontières.

Karlsson rode through various parks during her first tour of the city, ending her journey at Jubelpark around 5 p.m. She aims to repeat her action in different cities across Belgium and possibly beyond. “Who knows?” she said.

She believes the situation in Sudan should no longer be met with silence. “This crisis is currently unfolding quietly, despite the United Nations describing it as ‘the most devastating humanitarian crisis in the world’,” she noted.

According to Karlsson, Sudan is on the brink of experiencing the biggest food crisis in recent history. A total of 24.6 million people, about half of the population, suffer from hunger, with one in three children facing acute malnutrition.

She also highlighted the mass killings of entire villages and the fear families have of cultivating their land due to armed attacks and rapes.

Karlsson hopes her action will draw attention to the famine and spark a wave of solidarity.
