The Ribaucourt, Simonis (Elisabeth), and Yser metro stations were evacuated for safety reasons after smoke was detected under a metro train at Ribaucourt, the Brussels public transport authority, Stib, and the Brussels fire brigade reported at 13:30 on Saturday.

The fire brigade, still on site for ventilation procedures, has already controlled the fire outbreak.

The incident is affecting Brussels metro services. Stib stated, “Metro lines 2 and 6 are interrupted between Elisabeth and Arts-Loi stations for an undetermined duration.”

The affected metro train was evacuated, and the driver, potentially suffering from smoke inhalation, was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Stib concluded, “We are now working with the Brussels fire brigade to fully clear the area to assess the damage and carry out any necessary repairs.”
