Evere, a municipality in Brussels, unveiled the new building of its sports complex on Saturday, situated on Avenue des Anciens Combattants—an event celebrated by the public contractor Beliris.
The sports hall adds an extra 1,180m2 and will host clubs, school pupils, and other local residents starting mid-August.
The new building stands between the pre-existing François Guillaume sports hall and the sports grounds in Evere Park, integrated into a complex that dates back to the late 1950s. Utilising prefabricated concrete panels for walls and polished concrete flooring, it is designed to fit seamlessly with the old structure, according to Beliris.
The facility features a large, bright hall of 1,000m2, seating for 100 supporters, a warm-up room, spacious changing rooms, and a cafeteria with a terrace overlooking the outdoor fields.
Handball, volleyball, basketball, hockey, badminton, and mini-football players can train in the main hall, which also accommodates cultural events. There’s also a smaller adjoining room of 180m2 for warm-ups, fencing, dance, martial arts, and table tennis. The building is equipped for disability sports, providing facilities for various disciplines.
The building’s three floors are accessible via a lift, and the stands include three places for people with reduced mobility.
“Our sports facilities were reaching capacity,” noted Jean-Luc Muleo, Evere’s Sports Councillor. The new sports hall “will meet all demands.”
Beliris invested €8.8 million in the construction, while Evere financed the study and design, and will fully manage the building’s operations.
