Chase on the Brussels ring after armed robbery in Grimbergen

A jewellery store in Grimbergen, Flemish Brabant, was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday morning, according to the Hal-Vilvoorde prosecutor’s office.

Three of the four alleged perpetrators were apprehended by police following a car chase on the Brussels Ring Road (R0) near Strombeek-Bever.

The armed robbery occurred around 11:40 at a jewellery store on Hogesteenweg in Grimbergen. Witnesses heard glass shattering and saw three men fleeing the shop and getting into a waiting vehicle. The store manager was reportedly injured during the robbery.

“We can confirm that an armed robbery was committed at a jewellery store in Grimbergen,” said Ingrid Moriau, spokesperson for the Hal-Vilvoorde prosecutor’s office. “Four individuals are involved. Three suspects have been apprehended by police. Both the federal judicial police of Hal-Vilvoorde and the forensic laboratory are on-site.”

According to federal police, the arrest of the three suspects occurred on the exit ramp of the inner Brussels Ring leading to the A12, near Strombeek-Bever. The police operation briefly resulted in the closure of the road.
