A free classical music concert at Bozar will kick off National Day celebrations in the capital on the evening of 20 July, announced the cultural institution on Tuesday.

The event will be graced by the presence of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde in the iconic Henry Le Bœuf Hall.

This year’s soloist is Dutch pianist Hannes Minnaar, awarded third prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2010. He will be joined by the Belgian National Orchestra, conducted by Dutch maestro Antony Hermus.

The concert is organised by the Queen Elisabeth Competition in collaboration with the Belgian National Orchestra and Bozar, supported by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and National Lottery players.

The programme opens with “The Moldau” from “My Country” by Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. Hannes Minnaar will then perform Maurice Ravel’s “Piano Concerto in G major.” The orchestra will conclude the musical event with “Dances of Galánta” by Zoltán Kodály.
