Officers from the Brussels police zone BruNo intervened at around 8:35 on Sunday to help a person who had been the victim of a stabbing incident in Rue de Brabant near the Brussels North station.
The man was injured in the shoulder blade, and an ambulance was called to attend to him.
The ambulance quickly arrived at the scene and treated the victim.
"The investigation into the circumstances of the incident has only just begun. Several investigative acts are ongoing, and in the interest of the investigation, no further announcements are being made at this time," Audrey Dereymaeker, spokeswoman for the Brussels police zone, confirmed.
The man remains in hospital for the time being, doctors have not yet made any statements about his condition.
Rue de Brabant and the neighbouring Rue d'Aerschot are notorious streets in Brussels. There have already been many violent incidents in the surrounding neighbourhood, including several shootings. Drug trafficking is also common in the area.
