A shooting was reported on Wednesday evening in the Brussels municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, confirmed the local police in Brussels West.

"Our teams were alerted around 19:00 that shots had been fired," said Commissioner Johan Berckmans, spokesperson for Brussels West police.

"Our teams immediately went to the scene and discovered several bullet casings at the intersection of Chaussee de Gand and Rue De La Borne. A firearm was found shortly afterwards in Rue de la Fabrique de Savon."

The police established two safety perimeters, one at Chaussee de Gand and another in Rue de la Fabrique de Savon.

The federal police laboratory arrived to conduct a forensic investigation, but so far, no blood traces or victims have been found. Additionally, no suspects have been apprehended.

The incident marks the second shooting in Brussels over the last two days. A man suffered serious injuries in the early hours of Wednesday after getting shot in Anderlecht, and was taken to hospital.

It is still unknown whether the two events are related.

The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office has been informed and has launched an investigation for attempted manslaughter.
