A fire broke out in an apartment building on Boulevard Leopold III in the commune of Schaerbeek in Brussels on Saturday night, Belga news agency reports.
One person died and four others were wounded and taken to the hospital, according to Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels fire department.
Firefighters received a call shortly after 1am regarding a fire on the sixth floor of a building with eight floors.
About 40 residents were evacuated and taken to a nearby hotel on a STIB bus. In total, six fire trucks, and five ambulances were sent to the scene.
The fire was quickly extinguished. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
