A suspect in one of the shootings in recent weeks in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean was arrested on 18 June and is currently in pre-trial detention, according to the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office.
News of the shooting was first reported by Sudinfo.
The incident occurred in broad daylight, at 1:30 PM on 2 June on Rue de l'Intendant, in the heart of Molenbeek. Several shots were fired. Most of the bullets ended up in a parked car, but one man was shot in the foot. A second man was stabbed in the back and was in mortal danger.
The person wounded by a bullet tried to reach a hospital on his own, but eventually had to be taken by ambulance. Both injured persons had to be hospitalised.
According to Sudinfo, the suspect was initially questioned as a victim or witness and was only arrested as a suspect days later. He was held on June 18, the prosecutor’s office said.
The man who, according to Sudinfo was wiretapped after his first release, said in a phone call that he would “finish what he started.”
The prosecutor’s office did not wish to say whether the suspect who was arrested was one of the two men injured.
