The Brussels government has approved a bill establishing a mobility budget for leading civil servants and the purchase, use and management of service vehicles, according to Civil Service Minister Sven Gatz.
The decree establishes the legal framework and regulations for the purchase, use and management of vehicles by the regional institutions that fall within its scope.
“With this draft decree, which provides for objective, transparent and homogeneous conditions for granting mobility budgets to leading civil servants, we are responding to a request from the Court of Audit and ensuring an innovative approach within the Brussels administration,” Gatz explained.
This decision does more than introduce a regularisation: leading civil servants who were previously entitled to a service vehicle now receive a mobility budget. This allows them to combine different modes of transport as long as it falls within the budget.
The draft decision thus contributes to the greening of mobility within the Brussels administration, Gatz noted. “With this innovative mobility budget, the Brussels government also wants to be able to attract and retain excellent top officials,” he added.
