Traffic has been heavily disrupted in Brussels on Friday morning, with Rue de la Loi being closed due to a firefighters' demonstration. Motorists have thus been asked to avoid the areas of Arts-Loi and Boulevard du Régent.

The Brussels-Capital Ixelles police zone expects this congestion to last until 12:00, with fire brigades set to protest against a lack of investment for their sector in the federal budget. As a result, traffic on the R20 is also said to have been heavily disrupted.

Translation of tweet: "Due to the demonstration, major disturbances on the intersection avenue des Arts/rue de la Loi. Circulation is only possible via the tunnels of the Petite Ceinture. Avoid this area by car!"

Earlier closures of the Loi, Cinquantenaire and Tervueren tunnels had already seen traffic slowed down significantly in the capital.

A ventilation issue was discovered in the Loi tunnel shortly before 08:00, which led to all three tunnels being closed. However, they were subsequently reopened a couple of hours later.
