The SNAP! festival (Sex Workers Narratives Arts & Politics) and the Brussels Porn Film Festival (BxlPFF) are hosting a joint edition this year, that will take place from 4 to 7 May at the Beursschouwburg centre, Cinema Aventure and Cinema Nova in Brussels, the associations announced on Thursday.

The programme will include film screenings, shows and performances, stands, debates and competitions.

SNAP! aims “to counter stigmatising stereotypes of sex workers and to give back their voice so that they can take ownership of the discourse against them”, say the organisers. BxlPFF is the first Belgian festival of alternative pornographic films. It invites the public “to question and discover the subtleties of this cinematographic genre…far from clichés.”

During these four days, spectators will be able to discover more than a hundred films dealing with sexuality in various forms.

Shows and performances will give voice to many different groups, notably LGBTQI people and sex workers. Visitors will also be able to wander among the stands dedicated to the pornography market and “discover new sensations”. They will also be able to attend or participate in debates addressing, among other things, the ethical issues that run through the sex industry.

Belgian artists will be honoured during a competition of alternative porn films. There will also be an international competition. Known for her documentaries Don’t Tell My Mother or In Case of Depressurisation, Belgian director Sarah Moon Howe will be on the jury.
