An individual attacked two homeless people with a knife while they were sleeping in the Maelbeek Metro Station on Monday at around 5 a.m.

The attack, first reported by Sudinfo, was confirmed on Friday by the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.

According to the media, the perpetrator took off his shoes and started praying before stabbing the two victims. A suspect is under arrest.

Police went to the scene after the attack was reported, and found the victims, two men aged 53 and 45. ” They received first aid. Their lives are not in danger,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

“A judicial perimeter was subsequently established to preserve all traces useful to the investigation,” it added, after which the victims were interviewed.

Surveillance video footage was then viewed, and forensic investigations conducted. An investigating judge was appointed and he placed a suspect under arrest.

The investigation into the exact circumstances of the events is continuing, the public prosecutor’s office said.
