The ring road around Brussels will be closed in Zaventem from 20:00 on Saturday until 14:00 on Sunday to install a bridge, the Flemish organisation De Werkvennootschap (DWV) reported on Wednesday.
To ensure the safety of both road users and workers, the contractor is closing both the ring road and the Hector Henneau Avenue bridge. Serious disruption is expected and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
DWV is currently carrying out works across the Brussels ring road, such as replacing the old, unsafe bridge on Hector Henneau Avenue in several phases.
This weekend, the second and final section of the new bridge over the ring road will be installed. It is the size of half a football pitch – 100 metres long and over 27 metres wide.

"What is happening on the ring road on Saturday night is truly a feat of engineering," said Flemish Mobility Minister Lydia Peeters.
"Allowing a bridge the size of half a football pitch to cross the ring road is a very exceptional operation and an incredibly important milestone in the installation of a safer bridge at Hector Henneau Avenue. Road users are best advised to avoid the area until Sunday afternoon. We expect heavy traffic on the diversion routes."
