One person has been admitted to the hospital and is severely injured after being involved in an electric scooter clash that took place on a busy road of a Brussels municipality on Thursday evening.

Two e-scooter riders, a 25-year-old man and a man in his fourties, collided with each other in the junction between the Chaussée d'Ixelles and the Rue du Prince Royal, located in the municipality of Ixelles.

The youngest of the two was rushed to the hospital unconscious and is reportedly in critical condition, according to Le Soir.

"The Brussels prosecutor's office was notified of this serious accident and is carrying out an investigation," spokesperson Denis Goeman told local media.

Police are questioning witnesses and will review surveillance footage as they try to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The incident, which reportedly occurred after one of the two riders failed to stop to let the other pass, comes as Brussels mobility authorities on Friday prepare to launch a campaign to promote the safe use of the electric two-wheelers.
