The trailer of a truck driving on the E19 motorway into Brussels caught fire on Wednesday morning, significantly impacting traffic into the capital, with local media reporting up to 8 kilometres of traffic jams.
The truck caught fire at around 08:00 AM on the freeway in the direction of Brussels near the city of Nivelles.
Firemen were able to contain the flames after they broke out inside the truck’s trailer, which contained wooden material for train tracks.
“The driver of the truck reacted quickly and pulled over to the emergency stop lane to detach the trailer, managing to isolate it,” the firemen department told Belgian media.
The origins of the fire were not made clear by the fire department, but mobility authorities the incident caused significant disturbances to drivers coming into Brussels.
