The illustrious Continental building on Place De Brouckère has been transformed into a new Brussels cultural hub, and will open its doors to the public at 16:00 on Friday.

The cultural non-profit 'Bruxselair' has recently been busy refurbishing the six floors of the legendary former hotel. It is celebrating its inauguration by offering visitors "a sort of giant pop-up store, where different forms of artistic expression will be offered to lovers of 'slow culture', creation and vintage," enthused project instigator Vincent Le Merer in a press release.

The venue will be open to the public from 16:00, with outdoor DJ sets to kick-off the event. The public can then enjoy the bar and restaurant on the first floor, discover the designer market on the first three floors or book an appointment in the tattoo or hair salon on the fourth floor. From 21:30, everyone is invited to gather on the ground floor. The bar will be open from 08:00 until 01:00 in the morning.

The project, permitted by Brussels' governmental housing association (Régie Foncière) and supported by the office of alderwoman for public heritage Lydia Mutyebele, will run for a minimum of 16 months.

"The Continental was built in 1874, and has been the landmark of the Place De Brouckère for over a century. It could not remain empty following the relocation of the Régie Foncière de Bruxelles' offices," Mutyebele stated in a press release.

"This temporary assignment will enable the people of Brussels to visit this beautiful heritage site. Beyond that, Brussels is teeming with ambitious projects looking for a place to develop, so it was our duty to open the doors of our buildings."
