Seventeen local sports infrastructure projects will share just over €21 million in subsidies from the government of Brussels/Capital Region, Brussels Minister for Municipal Infrastructure Bernard Clerfayt said on Tuesday.
The Region has set aside €21,302,375, from which it will subsidise up to 70% of each project’s costs.
Chosen from among 18 applications in response to a call for projects launched in March, the 17 initiatives aim to increase the availability of multi-purpose sports halls, football fields, and sports centres. The idea is to better serve the capital’s 1,220,000 inhabitants.
A key selection criterion was that projects must be located in less well-equipped neighbourhoods in terms of sports infrastructure.
The selected projects include the construction of a new sports hub in Peterbos and the creation of a new sports space in Square de l’accueil in Evere.
Other initiatives selected for funding include the purchase of land for the construction of a multi-purpose sports hall in Schaerbeek, and the creation of a gym in Neder-Over-Heembeek.
