A 19-year-old man was found critically injured on Brussels' central Avenue Louise at the start of this week. He was found with two bullet wounds to the head.

The City of Brussels/Ixelles local police area received a call about the incident at around 21:30 on Monday evening on Avenue Louise in Ixelles.

"At the scene, officers discovered a 19-year-old man with serious injuries," said Stefan Vandevelde, spokesperson for the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office. "Emergency services attended the scene and provided first aid, after which the victim was transferred to hospital. At present, the young man's life is still in danger."

According to reports from La Capitale, the victim was shot twice in the head. The Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident.

When asked for an update by The Brussels Times on Thursday, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office stressed that no additional information can be released about where the shooting took place and in what context due to the sensitivity of the case.

Whether the incident can be linked to recent gang-related violence in the Capital Region remains unclear.
