The Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a judicial investigation into a possible attempt to kidnap a baby on Saturday evening in Ganshoren. One person who was arrested during the incident will be interrogated.

A man allegedly tried to kidnap a five-month-old baby on Saturday evening around 19:30 in the Rue Sergent Sorensen, while the child's parents were loading their car, La Capitale reports based on a testimony on social media.

The man allegedly ran away with the child but was stopped by bystanders. The same testimony mentions a possible accomplice, who is said to have travelled in a white van.

"On Saturday 13 April, a complaint was filed for the attempted kidnapping of a minor, younger than 12 years old, in Ganshoren," the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office said.

"A man, born in 1994, was arrested by the police and made available to the Public Prosecutor's Office after questioning. The Public Prosecutor's Office has requested an investigating judge who will interrogate the suspect. No further comment will be made for the time being."
