The French-speaking teachers' union front is calling for a "final large-scale action" before the elections and the end of the academic year.

They will rally in Brussels on Tuesday 23 April to push education back up to the top of the agenda and emphasise their demands for future governments.

The unions want to "send a strong signal to politicians" as elections approach and forthcoming coalition negotiations commence. "The message is clear: it is imperative to put education back at the centre of our concerns," the united front underlined.

Issues with teacher shortages, class sizes, work overloads, financing, assisting structures (psycho-medico-social centres), qualifying education and social promotion, and teacher appraisals in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation have all been identified as pressing matters by the unions. They are demanding concrete solutions.

The teaching staff representatives also pointed out that these issues affect all educational institutions in Belgium. A delegation from the Flemish education unions will also participate in the action.

Activists will gather from 09:30 on 23 April at Brussels-Central Station. The group will then head to the headquarters of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation at Place Surlet de Chokier. Once there, union representatives will speak to the assembly.
