Metro traffic on lines 1 and 5 between Central Station and Arts-Loi in Brussels was disrupted early on Tuesday morning around rush hour, posing a problem for many commuters. The problem has since been resolved and traffic has resumed.

Technical problems occurred early Tuesday morning, Brussels public transport operator STIB's spokesperson Guy Sablon confirmed. They surfaced following overnight work on the lines, when loose cables were left hanging over the tracks. The first metro carriage this morning ran into one of the cables, blocking all the traffic behind it.

"As a result, Metro lines 1 and 5 between Central Station and Arts-Loi in both directions are not running as scheduled," Sablon told The Brussels Times. All the stops outside the problem zone are still being serviced.

The repairs took some time, but by 10:00 Sablon confirmed that the issue had been resolved and that Metro traffic had returned to normal on both lines.
