The Brussels Council Chamber decided last week to keep three adults in custody following an attempted kidnapping in Forest, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office announced on Tuesday.

The fourth suspect, a minor, has been placed in a closed institution by the juvenile court.

The four men attempted to kidnap a 44-year-old woman on 20 December in the Brussels municipality of Forest. The men reportedly wanted to demand a ransom from the woman's partner, who refers to himself as a "crypto-millionaire."

The woman was walking down the street when the men forced her into a van and fled. A witness immediately alerted the police, leading to a chase. The pursuit ended on the N31 in Bruges when the kidnappers lost control of the van.

Both the victim and the suspects were injured in the crash. The kidnappers were swiftly apprehended.

One of the suspects is a minor and has been placed in a closed institution by a juvenile judge. The three adults were placed under arrest warrants by an investigating judge.

They appeared before the Council Chamber on 26 and 27 December, which decided to extend their preventive detention by one month.
