Two trains were damaged while driving through the Schaerbeek train station on Sunday evening. The Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation.
A ballistics expert has been appointed. No one was injured in the incidents.
"The Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office can confirm that on Sunday 16 February 2025 between 19:00 and 19:30, a train from Antwerp to Brussels was hit by projectiles when it passed Schaerbeek," said Public Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Martin François. "Since the windows of the carriages are reinforced and secured, only the outer part of the window was damaged."
A short time later it turned out that a second train, en route to Vilvoorde, was also a target at the same location. "The nature of the projectiles is currently unknown. No one was injured as a result of the incident."
The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and to identify the perpetrator(s).
The two trains stopped at the stations of Vilvoorde and Brussels North, where passengers could transfer to another train. Due to the incident, train traffic between Schaerbeek and Vilvoorde was temporarily interrupted on two of the four tracks.
