A 71-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to spike a woman in an Ixelles bar last month.
CCTV footage dating from 26 June shows the man attempting to drug a woman by pouring a substance into her drink while sitting at a bar counter together.
He made his attempt when she left to go to another room. One of the bar employees observed the suspicious behaviour via the surveillance system and was able to intervene.
Brussels-Ixelles police carried out the arrest at the end of last month.
The suspect is a 71-year-old man who entered Belgium irregularly.
He was questioned and handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which referred the case to an investigating judge for voluntary administration of harmful substances.
The local police force's investigation department is handling the file.
