A 23-year-old man died in the early hours of Thursday after an attempted burglary in an apartment on Rue de la Querelle in Brussels, according to the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Four men are suspected of climbing the facade of the building and entering the home through an open window. Inside the apartment, the suspects were faced with two residents. The four men allegedly used violence and threatened the residents with knives and a hammer.
The suspects then tried to escape through the window, but one of them, aged 23, fell and died at the scene from his injuries. The other three suspects are being actively sought by authorities.
"The two people who were in the apartment are being interviewed," stated a spokesperson for the Prosecutor’s Office, Maryam Benayad on Thursday.
The Public Prosecutor has requested the involvement of the federal judicial police’s laboratory and a forensic pathologist. The investigation is ongoing.
