Gunfire reported in Molenbeek, one person injured

A person was injured by gunfire on Thursday afternoon in Molenbeek, firefighters confirmed to Belga News Agency, corroborating a report from Het Laatste Nieuws.

The incident occurred between Rue de l’École and Bonnevie Park, just a short distance from the local police station and town hall.

The injured individual, believed to be a young local man, was attended to at the scene around 2:30 p.m. before being transported to hospital.

His condition remains unknown.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, two masked individuals allegedly opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

Witnesses described a scene of panic among local residents. The victim, reportedly struck in the park, attempted to reach the street before collapsing.

Shots were also fired on Wednesday evening in central Molenbeek, but no one was injured. Several bullet casings and a gun were later found at the intersection of Rue de la Borne and Chaussée de Gand.

No connection was immediately established between the two incidents.
