Brussels public transport operator STIB/MIVB is simplifying the process for renewing a school pass: from now on, only students over 18 who do not live in the Capital Region will need to submit a certificate.

The school pass is for all pupils and students aged 12 to 24. For €12 per year, it provides access to STIB/MIVB's entire network (with the exception of line 12 from Brussels Airport). If two other members of the same family already have a pass, the school pass is even free.

Since 2022, Brussels residents aged 18 to 24 have been able to use the "Brusselaar 18-24" pass, whether they are currently studying or not.

Since the introduction of this measure, the proportion of young Brussels residents with a STIB/MIVB pass has risen from 70% to 90%. Of the more than 200,000 Brussels residents aged 12 to 24, more than 175,000 have one.

The new fare formula also simplifies the procedure for obtaining a pass: only students over 18 who live outside the Brussels-Capital Region still need to provide a school certificate from now on.

This certificate is available on the STIB/MIVB website and, once completed, can be sent by email or submitted at a BOOTIK or KIOSK.

Once the certificate is validated and the profile is updated, the pass can be purchased online at www.stib.brussels. Since the beginning of this year, STIB has had a new website that provides a smoother, more user-friendly, and simpler purchasing experience.

Young people are avid users of public transport: 90% of Brussels youth have a STIB/MIVB pass, and a recent study shows that they use the bus, tram, or metro more often than other age groups, according to the latest mobility study by Brussels Mobility.
