A body was found in the Brussels-Charleroi canal on Tuesday morning. The body has not yet been identified, and the circumstances of death are still unclear.
A passerby saw a body floating near Quai des Usines, near Place Jules De Trooz in the area of the Brussels North station, around 10:30 on Tuesday morning. The witness notified the police, who in turn notified the fire department.
Fire department divers brought the body, that of a man, to the quay, where it was subjected to an initial examination by a forensic physician.
However, the body could not be identified, and the circumstances of the person's death and fall into the water are unclear. An autopsy will therefore be performed, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
