The first edition of the Brussels 'Dogolympics' will be held in the Bois de la Cambre in September, announced Brussels city councillor for Sport and Animal Welfare Florence Frelinx (MR).

During these first 'Dog Olympics,' owners and their dogs can participate in competitions, such as the canicross (2.5 km or 5 km), skill and obedience games, dog-handler challenges, guided walks and even dog yoga sessions.

The event, which is free and open to everyone (from experienced athletes to leisurely (dog) walkers, children, and everyone who is curious enough to stop by), aims to "promote animal welfare through play and exercise."

There will also be a photo booth, mini-pools for dogs, a chill-out area, a food truck, an ice cream parlour and a number of activities for children. Participants can also get certificates to take home.

The event will take place on Sunday 14 September in the Bois de la Cambre in Brussels, from 13:30 to 17:30. To participate, dogs must be healthy, well-socialised, and vaccinated. Registration is required via the City of Brussels website.
