The Brussels police conducted a large-scale search in the municipality of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on Thursday, for one or more individuals who may have been armed, confirmed the Brussels West police zone.
Around 11:00, police received a call from a witness who had seen one or more individuals, presumably armed, enter an apartment building on Rue des Déménageurs in Molenbeek.
"We then sent several patrols to the scene and cordoned off the area," they told Belga News Agency. The Rue des Déménageurs, part of the Chaussée de Gand and Rue Tazieaux were closed, as were Rue Wauters-Koeckx and Place Voltaire.
"Our anti-banditry squad, along with the anti-banditry squad of the Brussels Capital/Ixelles police, searched the surrounding buildings and parking garages, but the search yielded no results," they added.
Shortly before 13:00, the perimeter was lifted.
The suspects may have already disappeared, or the witness may have made a mistake, the police added.
