The Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek is organising a Ukrainian cultural charity evening on Friday 3 June, with a piano concert given by a Ukrainian artist in the wedding room of the town hall.

The municipality, in collaboration with the Embassy of Ukraine, is organising a Ukrainian cultural evening, with a piano performance by Ukrainian artist Oksana Bukxari, who comes especially from London.

"The whole issue of Ukraine is very sensitive to the international community in Brussels," Schaerbeek's city councillor in charge of its international relations Quentin van den Hove told The Brussels Times.

The attendees will have the opportunity to make a donation for the benefit of Ukrainian refugees, which will be used for non-military purposes in Ukraine, he added.

"At the request of the embassy, we have thought about different possibilities for the organisation of this evening. Musical evenings have always added value because music is a universal language, whatever the audience," he added.

Bukxari will play jazz interpretations of traditional Ukrainian music, as well as great classics by famous composers such as Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev. "I am proud that we can use the magnificent Steinway piano, known as the Rolls Royce of pianos, which is in our superb wedding hall in Schaerbeek."

Van den Hove said that a large number of Ukrainians have already registered to attend, making it "an excellent moment for Ukrainian refugees on our territory to meet with the people of Schaerbeek."

The concert will take place on Friday 3 June from 19:30 in the wedding hall of the Hôtel Communal de Schaerbeek. Admission is free, but places are limited so reservations are recommended.
