A new summer event featuring two “city villages,” artistic routes and a music festival kicked off on Thursday evening in Brussels.

The event, dubbed “In the streets”, offers free activities in the center of the Belgian capital until 14 August. It began at about 6 PM on the Mont des Arts, in the presence of Mayor Philippe Close, Alderman for Sport Benoit Hellings, Alderman for Economic Affairs Fabian Maingain and Alderman for the Public Space Ans Persoons.

The opening spectacle was entrusted to choreographer Sadeck Waff, who took the stage for a performance with HornDogz, Groove Travelerz and Melodiggerz. Delphine Houba, Alderwoman for Culture and Big Events was also present.

In a month, the Vibe music festival will bring 130 free concerts to five locations in Brussels – the Mont des Arts, Place d'Espagne, in front of the Saint Michael and Saint Gudula Cathedral, Rue de l'Epée and Rue Baron Horta – which will serve as open-air stands for the festival.

A dance on roller skates, followed by a roller-skating party, marked the opening of the 500-square-meter roller skating rink on De Brouckèreplein, where the Play Down city village is located.

The Play Up city village on the slopes of the Palace of Justice was inaugurated by Jérémy Lorsignol, bronze medalist at the World Games, and other participants.

Other attractions include an artistic trail consisting of two routes that connect the different locations of the festival and which lead visitors past art installations at the Europe Crossroads, the Zwarte Toren, Grote Zavel and two high works of art towering over the Steenstraat and the Hoogstraat.
