A number of arthouse cinemas in the Brussels-Capital Region and Wallonia are making thousands of tickets available for €1 from next month, as the authorities are re-launching the "J'peux pas, j'ai cinéma" initiative.

After two successful editions during the reopening of cinemas in the summer of 2020 and 2021, the Francophone authorities are making 20,000 tickets available for €1 in 37 cinemas between 1 September and 11 October.

"The J'peux pas, j'ai cinéma initiative offers access to culture for all in the current difficult economic context, and it also supports cinema exhibitors and distributors," said Francophone Culture and Media Minister Bénédicte Linard in a press release.

While tickets will only be sold at the symbolic price of €1, cinemas and film distributors will be reimbursed by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation at the usual rate.

"The first two editions launched during the Covid-19 crisis were a great success," she added. "The good news is that the number of cinemas involved is increasing for the third edition, with no less than 37 different locations, from Brussels to Liège, via Mons or Gedinne, which will allow as many people as possible to take advantage of these 20,000 seats for 1 euro in a cinema near their home."

Just 11 cinemas took part over the last two years, but 26 more have joined for this year's edition, meaning 37 participating cinemas will be structurally supported by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
