On Thursday night, a suspicious briefcase was found in an office of the Great Synagogue of Brussels, on Rue de la Regence, during the Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year) service, said the Brussels-Ixelles area police. The service for the removal and destruction of explosive devices (SEDEE) arrived on the scene but did not find anything suspicious. The briefcase was discovered in a room while a dozen people were there attending the church service. The office continued its work in another room of the Great Synagogue.
Traffic on Regentschapstraat was re-routed while the bomb squad investigated the incident. The investigation ended around 9:10 p.m.
