ARAU disputes proposed Meiser Tunnel

On Friday, the Urban Research and Action Workshop (ARAU) condemned the plan of the Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Pascal Smet, to accelerate the implementation of the proposed double tunnel (cars and trams) in Meiser. This project would cost 250 million euros and increase car traffic, stated the workshop. "Destroying the Reyers highway just to rebuild it a few dozen yards away as a tunnel would be futile," laments ARAU. ARAU believes that the Brussels-Capital should "absolutely abandon this project that goes against the objective of the IRIS 2 planl (20% reduction in automobile use ) and does not contribute to improving the quality of life. "

ARAU argues in favor of a modern city, where Meiser would be in a system of shared urban boulevards giving priority to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.
