National demonstration – 112 police officers injured in Brussels

A hundred and twelve police officers from the different Brussel zones were injured in incidents during the national demonstration that took place in Brussels on Thursday, the Brussels-Ixelles police said on Friday. Forty-three Brussels-Ixelles police officers were injured, among them 35 inspectors from Intervention management and Peacekeeping, 6 from Local Missing Persons, and 2 from Traffic Management. At least 18 officers are off work and 15 agents still have to have their injuries looked at by a Doctor.

Thirty-seven police officers from the Midi zone (Antwerp, Saint-Gilles, Forest) were injured and one of them is off work for a month due to a fractured wrist. Several police cars from the zone’s station were damaged, mainly broken windows. Finally, 19 officers from the North zone (Schaerbeek, Evere, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode), 6 from the Montgomery zone (Etterbeek, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert) and 2 federal police officers were also injured.

There was also a lot of material damage. 11 personal vehicles were burned (7 small vans, 4 cars and a lorry), 4 on the Midi boulevard. Sixty-two other were damaged. At least 5 properties, including a travel agent on the Place De Brouckère, were damaged in varying degrees. There was also damage to the main road.
